Chad Adams, Principal, Sullivan High School, and SMART™ Academic Advisor
A proud supporter of SMART™, Adams boosts an exceptional record of success as the principal at Sullivan High School, which is located in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the north side of Chicago. Sullivan is part of the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) district—the third largest school district in the United States. He is dedicated to preparing his students for success in high school, college, career, and life. He attributes the overall school improvement directly to the innovative SMART™ Student Health and Wellness Center becoming the epicenter of active access to preventive and integrative physical and behavioral health care for his diverse student population. Within three years of SMART™ opening its doors, the school that was rated as “failing” for thirteen consecutive years, moved up two levels overall, showing significant increases across the board. Adams’ tremendous belief in the efficacy of the SMART™ model as a health solution focused on academic achievement makes him the perfect advocate and spokesperson for those seeking replication consideration.
Adams earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from the Concordia University in Chicago. He has achieved the professional status of National Board Certified Teacher and National New Leaders Institute Certified Principal, which was founded at Harvard University. Adams is an Emerging Leaders Fellow – Chicago Council on Global Affairs and was honored as a Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year in 2001.
